Joshua Davis is a Research Scientist and the Associate Branch Head of the Information Operations Branch at Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI – http://www.gtri.gatech.edu), the applied research arm of the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta. He has nine years of experience in distributed test and evaluation working predominately supporting the US Marine Corps and U.S. Army. A majority of his focus has been on the design and development of command and control (C2) and communications distributed testing platforms playing implementation, requirements analysis, and management roles. This work has afforded him the perspective to the value of open source and its application to the U.S. Military. Josh is also the co-founder of the Military Open Source Software (Mil-OSS – http://www.mil-oss.org) community. Mil-OSS has been established to connect and empower an active community of civilian and military open source software and hardware developers across the U.S. This grassroots movement is a collection of the geeky, coffee drinking, sandal wearing patriots that work for the DoD and believe that we must adopt open technology innovation philosophies to effectively defend this nation.
