In 2003, David Hargreaves from the UK published, Education Epidemic: Transforming Secondary Schools, an important pamphlet that makes the case for utilizing Innovation Networks as a means of transforming schools: “It’s not possible for the system to change fast enough to become truly transformed unless knowledge of what works can by-pass the centre and flow from school to school and teacher to teacher.” As the US comes to realize that standards-based reforms and other top down approaches have their limitations, it will become increasingly necessary for educators to be able to leverage peer-led networks to more quickly identify, disseminate, and implement best practices across a group of schools. This presentation will share the experiences of a Vermont school system whose leadership has embraced Innovation Networks as a guiding principle of school transformation.
