Scratch is a programming language that makes it easy for kids to create their own interactive stories, animations, games, music, and art. Since the Scratch website went live in 2007, Scratchers have uploaded over 1.5 million projects. The source code for each of these projects is made freely available, so anyone can download, view, and even create a remix of the original. For many kids, Scratch is their first experience with the concept of “open source.” This talk will give a basic introduction to Scratch and the educational philosophy behind it.
