What Makes “Going Open” Successful?
Making a software project open source can seem like a daunting task. Sometimes it can be, but the end result tends to be worth the effort. The first questions to ask yourself before making the decision to go open are: how will the project be interesting to people? What are the hurdles? Who will support and manage the community? The software project must be active and mature, with enough internal sponsors to remain useful. And, true to the open source way, the community must find value from a project in much the same way the company will see value from a vibrant community of developers.
This presentation by Peter Vescuso, EVP of Marketing and Business Development at Black Duck Software, will explore how successful implementation of open source can make a positive change to company culture. Vescuso will use a customer case study (AOL) to discuss hurdles, tips, and community management.
