The prevalence of open source usage today has made it essential for enterprises to formulate and implement open source policies, but many organizations struggle to create and roll out effective policies. Informal policies may be ignored or adopted inconsistently, while overly restrictive policies can create roadblocks for developers and inadvertently encourage policy violations. Enterprise open source policies need to strike a balance in order to get buy-in from key stakeholders and allow engineers to move forward with open source initiatives within approved and enforceable guidelines.
In this session, Steven Grandchamp, CEO of OpenLogic, will discuss the key components of enterprise open source policies as well as strategies for effective policy implementation. Topics to be covered include policy best practices, creating an open source review board, and essential decisions around open source usage that should drive your open source policy. This session is ideal for anyone involved with legal, technical, or procurement issues related to enterprise open source software.
